Headlamp wipers


When the ignition switch is in the Drive position, current is supplied:


via fuse 31 to stalk switch 61 which controls the headlamp washers and wipers.

via fuse 10 to each headlamp wiper motor 66.

When the stalk is moved towards the steering wheel rim, the contacts in the switch close. Headlamp wiper motors 66 and washer motor 63 start simultaneously.

When the stalk is released and the circuit is broken, the wiper motors continue to be supplied with current (via fuse 10). When the wiper motors have completed a cycle of two strokes, the limit switches incorporated in the motors open the circuit and the wipers stop in the parked position.

A diode in each motor prevents current from the motor's feedback circuit from flowing back to the washer motor.

Each wiper motor incorporates overload protection in the form of a cut-out actuated by a resistor. The cut-out is connected in series with the motor and trips if the load is excessive (if the wiper blades have frozen to the headlamp lenses, for instance).
