Symptom: The soft top cannot be operated. In certain cases, it is operable but squeaks are audible. Certain diagnostic trouble codes may be generated: B1865, B2015, B2016, B2020, B2021, B2045, B2050, B2051.

Fault symptoms
The soft top cannot be operated. In certain cases, it is operable but squeaks are audible. Certain diagnostic trouble codes may be generated: B1865, B2015, B2016, B2020, B2021, B2045, B2050, B2051.
Cause:
The arm on the fifth bow intermediate position microswitch is bent.
Replace the microswitch. Touch up the ground surface. (400 108 635 Black BC 170) Apply Krytox lubricant to the drive link contact surface.

Manoeuvre the soft top until it is completely open with the soft top cover in a vertical position.

Grind away the material on the drive link as marked in the illustration. Make sure the surface is smooth.
|

For cars within the above VIN range where
L
is greater than 30 mm:
Grind approximately 1 mm. Make sure the surface is smooth.

Make sure all drive link contact surfaces are smooth and free from scratches. Grind if necessary.
|
|

Vacuum all dust from grinding where the microswitch will be fitted.
|
|

Touch up the ground surface. Allow to dry.
|

Fit microswitch for fifth bow intermediate position
. In those cases where only squeaking noises are audible, the old microswitch can be re-fitted if the arm is not damaged.

In all cases, check that the microswitch arm makes contact with the microswitch. If necessary, bend the microswitch arm slightly or move the microswitch slightly.

Adjust the microswitch arm so it is positioned as far from the drive link as possible. Tighten the bolt by hand and rotate the microswitch clockwise to the max position. Tighten the bolt.

|
Apply Krytox lubricant to the front drive link surfaces.
|
|

|
Connect the diagnostics tool and clear all diagnostic trouble code.
|
|
11.
|
Manoeuvre the soft top through at least 5 complete cycles in order to check soft top function.
