Master cylinder LHD

To remove


1. Empty the clutch system (brake fluid) through the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder with 88 19 096 Bleeding equipment .


2. Unplug the connector to the bonnet contact for the alarm if fitted.

3. Undo the main fuse box and put it to one side.

4. Detach the inlet hose from the master cylinder.


5. Undo the clip securing the deliver pipe to the master cylinder.

6. Pull off the delivery pipe.

7. Remove the nut in the engine bay securing the right-hand part of the clutch pedal bracket to the bulkhead.

8. Remove the lower dashboard panel and knee protection from under the steering wheel.


9. Remove the floor duct and pedal switch.

10. Remove the air duct for the side-window defroster and the cable ties on the wiring harness.


11. Remove the locking clip and pin from the clutch pedal.


12. Remove the nut securing the clutch pedal.

13. Lift out the right-hand part of the clutch pedal bracket with the master cylinder.

14. Undo the nuts securing the master cylinder to the bracket and remove the nuts.


15. Remove the master cylinder.


Fitting



1. Make sure the seal is fitted on the master cylinder and fit the cylinder onto the bracket.

Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 lbf ft).

2. Position the right-hand clutch pedal bracket with the master cylinder against the bulkhead and the clutch pedal bolt.


3. Fit the nut on the clutch pedal bolt without tightening it.

4. Make sure the clutch pedal helper spring is fitted correctly.

5. Tighten the right-hand clutch pedal bracket to the bulkhead.


Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 lbf ft).

6. Connect the inlet hose to the master cylinder.

7. Connect the delivery pipe and replace the locking clip.

8. Fit the main fuse box and connect the bonnet alarm contact.


9. Tighten the nut on the clutch pedal.

Tightening torque 47 Nm (35 lbf ft).

10. Fit the pin and locking clip to the pedal.


11. Fit the air duct to the side-window defroster and secure the wiring harness.

12. Fit the pedal switch.

13. Pull up the clutch pedal to adjust the switch to the correct position. If the switch is pressing down on the pedal, it may interfere with the operation.

14. Fit the knee protection, floor duct and lower dashboard panel.


15. Fill up with brake fluid.

16. Bleed the clutch, see .

17. Test the clutch and cruise control.
