Circuit/System Description

The adjustable pedals assembly is moved forward or backward by a motor which is fixed to the brake pedal actuator with a drive cable to the accelerator pedal actuator. The memory seat control module controls the adjustable pedals motor by applying battery voltage to one of the outputs and ground to the other. The adjustable pedals motor is bidirectional and the direction of the pedal assembly travel is determined by which of the motor control circuits is switched to battery positive voltage while the other is grounded. The adjustable pedals forward and rearward switches are inputs to the memory seat control module. When the switch is operated to the forward or rearward direction, it supplies a ground path for the signal inputs from the memory seat control module.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Verify DTC B3604, B3605, B3606, or B3607 is not set.

2. If any of the DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .

3. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Adjustable Pedals Control Switch and Adjustable Pedal Direction Command parameters while cycling the adjustable pedal switch between the FWD and RWD position. The appropriate parameter should change between Active and Inactive as commanded.

4. If the parameters do not change between the specified values, refer to Adjustable Pedal Switch Circuit Malfunction.

5. Verify the scan tool Adjustable Pedals Horizontal Position parameter is between 0.45-4.55 V.

6. If not within the specified range, refer to Adjustable Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

7. Command the adjustable pedals to move forward and rearward. The pedals should move in the commanded direction.

8. If the pedals do not move in the commanded direction, refer to Adjustable Pedal Motor Circuit Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Adjustable Pedal Switch Circuit Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S1 adjustable pedal switch.

2. Wait 3 minutes, test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.

3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Adjustable Pedal Control Switch parameter is Inactive.

5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 3 and signal circuit terminal 5 for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal terminal 3 and ground. The scan tool Adjustable Pedals Direction Command parameter should be Forward.

7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

8. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal terminal 5 and ground. The scan tool Adjustable Pedals Direction Command parameter should be Rearward.

9. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

10. If all circuits tests normal, test or replace the S1 adjustable pedal switch.

Adjustable Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the M16 adjustable pedal assembly.

2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 10 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 4 and ground.

3. If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 6 and ground.

5. If less than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

6. If greater than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

7. Verify the scan tool Adjustable Pedals Horizontal Position parameter is less than 0.45 V.

8. If greater than the specified range, test pin 5 of the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

9. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 5 and the 5 V reference circuit terminal 6. Verify the scan tool Adjustable Pedals Horizontal Position parameter is greater than 4.55 V.

10. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

11. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the M16 adjustable pedal assembly.

Adjustable Pedal Motor Circuit Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the M16 adjustable pedal assembly.

2. Ignition ON, test for 1.5-2.5 V between the control circuit terminals listed below and ground:

Control circuit terminal 2

Control circuit terminal 3

3. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

4. If less than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace K40 memory seat control module.

5. Connect the test lamp between the control circuit terminal 2 and the control circuit terminal 3.

6. Command the adjustable pedals to move forward and rearward. The test lamp should illuminate each time the pedals are commanded to move.

7. If the test lamp does not illuminate, replace the K40 memory seat control module.

8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the M16 adjustable pedal assembly.
