1. Stability Control Switch Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The instrument cluster switches on the indicators for traction control/stability control, the indicators for winter road conditions and stability control OFF for 5 seconds when the ignition has been switched ON. The electronic brake control module (EBCM) issues a command to the instrument panel to switch off the electronic stability control/traction control system indicator (flashes) when the system is in traction control or anti-skid system mode. When the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a fault, a message is sent to the instrument panel showing that the anti-skid system/traction control indicates ON.

The body control module (BCM) monitors the traction control system signal from the SportMode contact. When the contact is depressed once, the BCM requests deactivation of the traction control system. When the contact is depressed for 5 seconds, the BCM requests deactivation of the anti-skid system. The EBCM transmits a signal to the instrument panel to indicate that the systems are deactivated and indicates ON to notify the driver that the system is deactivated.

Circuit/system testing

Note

Circuit/System verification must take place before Circuit/system testing.

1. With the ignition OFF, undo the cable contact from the sport mode switch S109. It may take up to 2 minutes for all systems to power down.

2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.

3. If equal to or higher than 5 Ω:

3.1. Ignition OFF.

3.2. Check that there is less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit from one end to the other.

3.3. If there is 2 Ω or higher, repair the resistance in the circuit.

3.4. If there is less than 2 Ω, repair the resistance in the ground circuit.

4. If the resistance is lower than 5 Ω:

5. Ignition ON.

6. Use the scanning tool to check that the BCM's TCS contact parameter is Inactive.

7. If not Deactivated:

7.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X2 terminal block K9 on the BCM.

7.2. Test for infinite resistance between signal circuit and ground.

7.3. If there is lower than infinite resistance, repair the cable to the ground point on the circuit.

7.4. If there is infinite resistance, replace the K9 BCM.

8. If Inactive:

9. Install a 3 A fuse between the signal circuit in terminal 9 and ground.

10. Use the scanning tool to check that the BCM's TCS contact parameter is Active.

11. If it is not Active:

11.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X2 connector on the K9 BCM, Ignition ON.

11.2. Check that there is less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.

11.3. If there is 1 V or higher, repair the power cable to the circuit.

11.4. If there is less than 1 V

11.5. Check whether there is less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit, end to end.

11.6. If there is 2 Ω or higher, repair the resistance in the circuit.

11.7. If there is less than 2 Ω, replace the K9 BCM.

12. If Active :

13. Check or replace the S109 sport mode switch.

Component Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S109 Sport Mode Switch.

2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 9 and the ground circuit terminal 5 with the switch in the released position.

3. If lower than infinite resistance.

Replace the S109 sport mode contact.

4. Test that the resistance is lower than 2 Ω between the signal circuit's connection 9 and ground connection 5 when the sport mode contact is closed.

5. If the reading is 2 Ω or higher

Replace the S109 sport mode contact.

6. If the reading is less than 2 Ω

7. All OK.
