DTC Descriptor

DTC B2516 00

Driver Exterior Door Lock Switch Circuit, Malfunction.

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit Short to Ground Open/High Resistance Short to Voltage Signal Performance
Driver Door Lock Switch Signal B2516 00 1 1 -
Driver Door Handle Ground - 1 - -
1. Exterior Door Lock Switch Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The exterior driver door handle contains a small sensor which allows the driver to lock the vehicle doors from the outside without using the remote keyless transmitter. The keyless remote control sends a 12 V signal to the driver's door handle switch signal circuit, when the sensor is moved, signal circuit is ground and the voltage drops. The remote control module detects the voltage drop and then sends a serial data message to BCM which orders all doors to be locked.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The transition from shutoff to run.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The keyless entry control module detects the driver door lock switch signal circuit is shorted to ground for greater than 45 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The keyless entry control module ignores inputs from the left front exterior door handle switch.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.

When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.

A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Exterior Driver Door Handle Proximity Sensor parameter while pressing and releasing the driver door handle lock switch. The value should change between Active and Inactive as the switch is pressed and released.

Circuit/System Testing

1. With the ignition OFF, disconnect the connector from A24D exterior door handle unit on the driver's side.

2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit pin 4 and ground.

3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for open/high resistance.

4. Check with the diagnostic tool that the door handle system is Inactive.

5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 3 with respect to short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.

6. Connect a 3A jumper between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground, verify with the diagnostic tool that the door handle system is Activate.

7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for short to voltage or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.

8. If all circuits test normal, check or replace A24D exterior door handle on the driver's side.
