Read the instructions below then start the fault diagnostic procedure.

Symptom: CHECK ENGINE. Loss of performance.

P0246

Boost Pressure Control Valve Circuit. Short to B+.

Fault symptoms

CHECK ENGINE.

Loss of performance.

On-Board Diagnostics

Type of diagnosis:

- Continuous.

Enable criteria:

- Engine running.

- Boost pressure control active.

- Battery voltage between 10.2 - 15.8 V

Fault criteria:

- The voltage on the input is greater than 80% of the battery voltage for more than 0.3 s. (Battery voltage x 0.8 = limit for DTC.)

Dependents:

- None.

System reaction to a fault:

- The following limitations apply: EGR and boost pressure control switched off.

OK report:

- The voltage on the input is less than 80% of the battery voltage for more than 0.3 s. See fault criteria.

Fault handling: (See section Fault handling III, other emissions-related components and functions for more information)

- Type III.

Diagnostic help

Fault diagnosis concerns an electrical fault in the connecting leads or in the valve.

Functions in the diagnostic tool related to the fault:

- Read value: Charge Air Control Valve

See also description of read value under "Read Values" menu for more information.

Checking the wiring

Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to detect intermittent breaks and short circuits. Observe the multimeter, diagnostic tool or test lamp during the check.
