Rear seat backrest upholstery, 5D

To remove



1. Take the backrest out of the car, see .

2. Remove the plastic cover on the backrest catch, 1 screw and a bayonet clip under the handle.

3. Lift out the head restraint by pressing in the catches, one by hand and the other by pressing a small screwdriver against the small catch, while pulling up the head restraint.


4. Loosen the clip for the head restraint sleeve with a small screwdriver while carefully prising the top with a driver so that the sleeve comes loose.

Pull up the sleeve half way, turn it half a revolution and pull it all the way out. Repeat the procedure on the remaining sleeves.

5. Remove the belt cover that is fastened with clips.


6. Pull away the back plate that is fastened with clips. Extract the angled part of the upholstery from its groove so that the plate can be removed.

Important

Take care not to break the corner.


7. Remove the armrest by lowering it, unhooking the upholstery from the edge of the plate and removing the 4 nuts.


8. Loosen the strip along the edge and pull out the sheet of cardboard.


9. Loosen the upholstery strip along the back edge. This will be easier to do while pressing in the back to compress the foam padding.


10. Cut the seat cover staples.


11. Loosen the Velcro fastener by the backrest catch.

12. Unhook the steel wire from the 3 plastic clips.


13. Pull the upholstery away from the clip in the corner and lift away the upholstery and foam padding.

14. Cut all the seat cover staples with a pair of pliers and pull the backrest upholstery away from the foam padding.


To fit



1. Fit the backrest upholstery over the foam padding and secure with new seat cover staples from fitting kit 84 71 062.

2. Press on the steel wire to the 3 plastic clips.

3. Insert the belt.


4. Fasten the upper upholstery strip.

5. Fasten the upholstery strip along the back edge. Start in the corner so that the side mounting comes through the upholstery correctly.

6. Fit seat cover staples to the corner, fitting kit 84 71 062.


7. Close the Velcro fastener.

8. Hook on the metal guide to the clip on the corner.


9. Insert the sheet of cardboard, making sure its guide protrudes from the inner hole and then fits in the metal tab.


10. Fasten the upholstery strip on the edge.

11. Fit the armrest by screwing on the 4 nuts and hooking the upholstery to the edge of the plate.


Raise the armrest.

12. Fit the belt cover.


13. Fit the head restraint sleeves by inserting them half a revolution from their final position. Press down the sleeves about half way, turn them half a revolution. Guide the sleeves into the back plate and press them home.

14. Fit the head restraint by depressing the catch and pressing it home. Take care to keep the legs of the head restraint parallel with each other.

Make sure the lock is functioning.

15. Fit the upholstery on the rear of the backrest. Slide the angled edge in place and press on all the clips at the rear.


16. Fit the plastic cover on the backrest catch by pressing it on while the catch is open/unlocked (1 screw and a bayonet clip under the handle). Check its function.


17. Replace the backrest in the car, see
