Front Hinge Pillar Body Sectioning (Complete)

Removal Procedure

Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Warning .

Refer to Glass and Sheet Metal Handling Warning .


1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

3. Remove the front side door. Refer to Front Side Door Replacement .

4. Remove the front fender. Refer to Front Fender Replacement .

5. Remove windshield. Refer to Windshield Replacement .

6. Remove the front compartment upper side rail. Refer to Front Compartment Upper Side Rail Replacement .

7. Visually inspect the damage. Repair as much of the damage as possible.

8. Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Base) Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Corrosion Protection) .

Note

Do not damage any other panels or reinforcements.


Create cut lines on the front hinge pillar body.


10. Cut the front hinge pillar body where sectioning is to be performed.

11. Locate and mark all the necessary factory welds of the front hinge pillar body.

12. Drill all factory welds. Note the number and location of welds for installation of the service assembly.

13. Remove the damaged front hinge pillar body.


Installation Procedure

Note

Refer SPP, PSO welding parameters for resistance spot welding. See TIS Newsletter for equipment recommendations.


Cut the front hinge pillar body (1) in corresponding locations to fit the remaining original panel. The sectioning joint should be trimmed to allow a gap of one-and-one-half-times the metal thickness at the sectioning joint.


2. Prepare new front hinge pillar body in the area (1).

13 x slots (5 x 18 mm / 0.2 x 0.7 in)


3. Clean and prepare the attaching surfaces for welding.


4. Apply bodywork repair through structural adhesive to body (1). Refer to Structural Adhesive Body Repairs .

5. Apply 1K-Adhesive on the sound deadener (2). Refer to Chemical Products .

6. Position the front hinge pillar body on the vehicle.


7. Verify the fit of the front hinge pillar body.

8. Clamp the front hinge pillar body into position.

Refer to Welded, Brazed, and Riveted Joint Specifications .


Spot weld the front hinge pillar body (1) accordingly.


10. MIG-braze the front hinge pillar body (2).

11. Grind MIG-brazed seams.

12. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Base) Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Corrosion Protection) .

13. Install the front compartment upper side rail. Refer to Front Compartment Upper Side Rail Replacement .

14. Install the front side door. Refer to Front Side Door Replacement .

15. Install the front fender. Refer to Front Fender Replacement .

16. Install the windshield. Refer to Windshield Replacement .

17. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

18. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
