Circuit/System Description

The Body control module (BCM) checks the lock latch devices by feeding the control circuit in question with positive battery voltage or ground. The control circuits for locking and unlocking the rear doors and passenger doors are interconnected. When the lock latch devices are not active, the control circuit has ground potential in BCM. The transition to locked and unlocked positions depends on which control circuits receive voltage and which control circuits receive ground.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B3125 01, B3130 01, B3135 01

The BCM detects a short to battery on a door latch control circuit.

B3125 02, B3130 02, B3135 02

Short to ground or an open/high resistance in BCM B+ circuit

The BCM detects a short to ground on a door latch control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

All the power door locks will be inoperative.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

This DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.

When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.

A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON

2. Verify the lock latch function by commanding the doors to LOCK and UNLOCK with the diagnostic tool.

3. If only the driver's door LOCK and UNLOCK commands do not work:

4. Refer to Circuit/System Testing - Malfunction, Driver's Door below.

5. If one or more but not all, passenger doors LOCK and UNLOCK commands do not work:

6. Refer to Circuit/System Testing - Malfunction, Passenger Door below.

7. If all the door LOCK and UNLOCK commands do not work:

8. Refer to Circuit/System Testing - All Door Locks Malfunction below

9. If all the door LOCK and UNLOCK commands work:

10. All OK.

Circuit/System Testing

Malfunction, Driver's Door

1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, loosen the cable connection at A23 door latch unit - driver. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to be deenergized.

2.
Note

If you leave DMM connected between a control circuit and ground for longer than 20 seconds K9 BCM interprets the test as a system error, which will cause a voltage drop to 0V on the circuit. If the voltage drops to 0V, operate the doors with the central locking button in order to recover the test voltage.

Test for greater than 7V between the control circuit terminal 3 and ground.

3. If the value is lower than 7 V

3.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X6 cable connection at K9 Body control module (BCM).

3.2. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground.

3.3. If the value is less than infinite resistance, rectify the short to ground on the circuit.

3.4. If the resistance is infinite:

3.5. Test for less than 2 Ω on the control circuit end to end.

3.6. If the value is 2 Ω or higher, rectify the open/high resistance on the circuit.

3.7. If the value is less than 2 Ω, replace K9 Body control module (BCM).

4. If the value is higher than 7 V

5.
Note

If you leave DMM connected between a control circuit and ground for longer than 20 seconds K9 BCM interprets the test as a system error, which will cause a voltage drop to 0V on the circuit. If the voltage drops to 0V, operate the doors with the central locking button in order to recover the test voltage.

Test for higher than 7 V between the control circuit terminal 2 and ground.

6. If the value is less than 7 V

6.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X6 cable connection at K9 Body control module (BCM).

6.2. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground.

6.3. If the value is less than infinite resistance, rectify the short to ground on the circuit.

6.4. If the resistance is infinite:

6.5. Test for less than 2 Ω on the control circuit end to end.

6.6. If the value is 2 Ω or higher, rectify the open/high resistance on the circuit.

6.7. If the value is less than 2 Ω, replace K9 Body control module (BCM).

7. If the value is higher than 7 V

8. Test or replace the A23 door latch unit - driver.

Malfunction, Driver's Door

1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, loosen the cable connection at A23 door latch unit - passenger/rear.

Test for higher than 7 V between the control circuit terminal listed below and ground:

Control circuit pin 8 - A23P door latch unit - passenger

Control circuit pin 8 - A23RR door latch unit - right, rear

Control circuit pin 3 - A23LR door latch unit - left, rear

4. If the value is higher than 7 V:

5.
Note

If you leave DMM connected between a control circuit and ground for longer than 20 seconds K9 BCM interprets the test as a system error, which will cause a voltage drop to 0V on the circuit. If the voltage drops to 0V, operate the doors with the central locking button in order to recover the test voltage.

All Door Locks Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF disconnect X2 cable connection at K9 Body control module (BCM), ignition ON.

2. Verify that a test lamp lights between B+ pin 4 and ground.

3. If the lamp does not light and the circuit fuse is intact, test the B+ circuit for open/high resistance.

4. If the lamp does not light the circuit fuse is open, test the B+ circuit for short to ground. If the test shows that the circuit is normal, disconnect each A23 door latch unit and test each control circuit for short to ground.

5. If the lamp lights:

6. Ignition OFF, disconnect X2 cable connection at K9 Body control module (BCM). Loosen the cable connection at A23 door latch unit - driver, ignition ON.

7.

8. If the value is 7 V or less:

Component test

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate A23 door latch assembly.

2. Install a 25 A fused jumper wire between one of the control terminals and 12 V. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the other control terminal and ground. Reverse the jumper wires at least two times, the A23 door latch assembly should perform the LOCK and UNLOCK functions.

3. If it does not perform as specified, replace the A23 door latch assembly.
